What a Proper RV Inspection Covers

A thorough RV inspection goes well beyond what's visible from a walkthrough. Here's what we check:

Exterior: Roof membrane condition (walked, not just viewed from the ground), all seam sealants (dicor, lap seals), roof penetrations, sidewall delamination check (moisture meter + tap test), compartment door hinges and seals, slide-out seal condition, tires (tread, age from DOT date code — tires over 5-7 years old are a safety risk regardless of tread), hitch components and safety chains.

Interior: Floor soft spots (moisture meter throughout, not just obvious areas), ceiling staining, wall panel integrity, slide operation (all slides run in and out), window seals, all appliances operated in sequence (refrigerator on LP and 120V, stove all burners, microwave, water heater on LP and 120V if equipped), all interior lighting, 12V systems.

Mechanicals (motorhomes): Engine fluid levels and condition, battery condition and output voltage, chassis undercarriage visual, brake function, generator operation and output load test.

LP system: Regulator function, pressure test on all LP appliances, visual check of LP lines for chafing or damage.

• Hurricane-flooded RVs: After every major hurricane, totaled-out RVs with hidden flood damage reappear in the market at "discount" prices.
